Character Name: Momoka "Mary" Konishi
Title Name: N/A
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Birthday: December 13th
Birthplace: Kyushu
Clan: First
Year: First
Track: Artillery
School Clubs: Archery, Ceremony, Literature
Dorm: Seikatsu
Weapon: Bow and Arrow
Hair: very natural black tone of color, though on rare occasions she adds a bit of coloration to it (usually brown or blue-ish dye). Cut at about shoulder blade length and allowed to hang straight most of the time. While Momoka regularly maintains her locks and brushes them, that's about it. She doesn't like to waste time with complicated hairdos. During sports or training events she'll put her hair up into a messy high ponytail, but otherwise doesn't mess with it.
Eyes: Grey by most accounts, but they look slightly more blue depending on the lighting.
Build: A respectably athletic build which reflects regular exercise and training. By no means is she muscular, but she's clearly not the kind of lady who just sits around the manor all day.
Voice: Momoka's voice would best be described as a soft alto. Neither very high pitched or overly masculine, but rather with a strong womanly quality to it.
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 118 lbs.
Casual Clothing/appearance: Both at school and in her free time Momoka prioritizes feminimity, and this shows in her choices in personal wardrobe. A lot of pink and soft tones dominate her clothing, as do things with frills, lace and an overall girly look to them. Though she doesn't mind wearing slightly shorter skirts she will always wear leggings, tights or stockings with them out of modesty. She has a cross pendant on a necklace that is either ornate or costume jewelry depending on who you ask. Momoka is always wearing it out of uniform and sometimes even in uniform. Those who are more fashion inclined will notice that her clothing is usually just a little behind current trends. Mostly since she gets a lot of her clothes as hand-me-downs from cousins and mother.
Combat Clothing/appearance: : Momoka wears a combination of Japanese and western items when she is in a combat situation. Overall she dresses in traditional kyuudo gear, including a white kimono style top with a breastplate and an archery glove on her right hand. Accentuating her look are a pair of bracers which resemble samurai armor, along with matching boots. Along with her top she wears a red skirt which resembles hakama and falls just above her knees. On the breastplate is bot her family mon and, underneath it, a red Catholic cross marking.
Inventory/accessories: Phone, rosary, hairbrush, ponytail holders, a little bit of Portuguese money.
Personality: Momoka is by all accounts a fair bit reckless in her approach to almost everything. Careful preparation and planning are not alien to her, but she's prone to overdoing whatever action the plan calls for. She finds a sense of adventure in most things she does, and therefore believes firmly that those things should be zealously enjoyed. Remaining sedentary for too long will cause her mind to wander lest it be given something to focus on. She's a girl of action rather than simply words. For these reasons she loves sports and thrills in being involved in competition.
She usually acts brash and forward with others, unafraid to speak her opinions openly and to greet people she's a stranger to. Momoka highly values honesty and is easily upset by deceit. Emotions are the most honest form of expression, so Momoka strives to show them openly. Whether this is a hearty laugh at someone's joke, a spontaneous hug to someone who seems down or crying at something sad, she refuses to hide them. This can be very unnerving for others.
In competition Momoka is a very determined individual who will continue going on even when it simply seems impossible to succeed. She likes to win, but isn't too broken up when she's lost. It's much more about the pursuit of a goal and showing her skill than an absolute desire to win. That said she will likely do everything possible to win without resorting to underhanded measures. Victory is meaningless when it's achieved in a dity fashion. If someone can deal with her very open approach to emotions, Momoka will become their friend quickly. Or at least try to. She much prefers to be around people and is secretly afraid of being left alone for extended periods of time. The one time during which she acts contrary to her typical personality is during morning prayers - she's fairly pious in her Western religion and makes a special effort to ensure she adheres to a routine. Otherwise she'd be slipping, and she would feel guilt over doing so.
Likes: Travel, foreign languages, practicing archery, being physically active, feeling heroic.
Dislikes: Prolonged periods of inactivity, emotional dishonesty, deception, big egos.
Ambitions/Goals: To win greater recognition and respect for the Konishi clan as well as to achieve some amount of fame for herself.
Habits/Mannerisms: Offers morning prayers every day in a very ritualized manner, complete with a small shrine and a veil for herself. If someone appears to be in need of assistance she tends to rush in to help without being asked, even if she doesn't know the person personally. As noted she's very open with her emotions and will display them without concern for others' opinions.

History: The Konishi family has been a somewhat minor clan on Kyushu since its inception, and has long been exposed to western culture through trade. Even through the many years of the current Shogunate they have maintained an identity as one of the few Christian clans in Japan. Portugese influence led them to adopt Catholicism, though in a modified form which allows their first and foremost loyalty in this world be to the Shogun rather than the Pope. Their continued survival is owed to contacts with the west, experience with firearms, shrewdness in trade and sometimes just luck.
Momoka was born the oldest of three daughters of the current lord of the Konishi clan and was spared no expense in her early education. From kindergarten she attended a private, slightly religious school while receiving tutoring in foreign languages by a family friend who became a priest. From the earliest days she displayed a willingness to step up and be a vocal leader in her classroom, though it wasn't always appropriate to be quite so outspoken. While she struggled with more academic subjects initially - such as maths, science and calligraphy of kanji - she took to linguistics quite eagerly. She had a knack for recognizing the patterns in languages she was tutored in, which eventually helped her work through the more difficult subjects in school as well.
Study also took precedence in her home life, though for less formal or academic subjects. Around the same time that she was first exposed to western languages (about age 7), she began training in martial arts. Given a choice between kenjutsu and kyujutsu she gravitated toward ranged combat options. A young Momoka thought it was more exciting than swinging a sword around, and she stuck with the bow as she grew older. Simultaneously she began training with what firearms were available through trade when she turned 10; it took a while to get the aim right, but eventually she learned how to be fairly effective with one. Whenever she had a choice of which to practice at home, she'd elect to practice the bow instead. As the eldest child she has high expectations placed on her by her parents, so training could be quite intense.
Going to a private school left her isolated from traditional Japanese culture, however. She naturally assumes that the rest of Japan is similar to what she was raised with - vaguely Japanese with strong western influences, including religion. No opportunity was ever provided for her to interact with peers from more traditional families on a regular basis. As a result the few meetings she did enjoy turned awkward incredibly fast. Meanwhile her parents discussed the possibility of adopting a son, but ultimately settled on a compromise. As Momoka was accepted into Edo Bugei academy, her mother found herself once again pregnant. If the child is a boy then that will resolve the issue. Otherwise they believe that the best option will be to arrange a marriage for Momoka, in the hopes that she will eventually have a son instead.
Understanding that the family needs strong ties with the rest of Japan in order to maintain its hold on what power it has, Konishi Hiroaki decided to send his eldest child to the academy in Edo. For Momoka it's the beginning of a new adventure, and the idea of meeting other samurai kids her age is quite exciting. Even if it's all really weird and overwhelming at the start.
